AREAS OF SERVICE
Articulation, Language Development, and Structured Literacy
Welcome to Field Speech and Language Services. I offer assessment and direct therapy services for Articulation, Language Development, and Structured Literacy, customized to your child's needs, with in-person and virtual teletherapy appointments available.
Articulation is the process by which words and sounds are formed when the lips, tongue, jaw, teeth, and palate adjust the air coming through the 'vocal cords'. Articulation disorders occur when children have difficulty producing sounds or words correctly.
If a child presents with several articulation errors, listeners may have difficulty understanding what is being said, causing the speaker's message to not be communicated clearly. Direct speech therapy may be recommended, depending on whether or not my assessment indicates that the sound errors are age-appropriate and/or if there are structural issues in producing these sounds.
Expressive language refers to what your child says. As an S-LP, I can help your child learn new words and learn how to put them together to form phrases and sentences (semantics and syntax) so that your child can more effectively communicate.
Receptive language refers to your child’s ability to listen and understand language. As an S-LP, I can help teach your child new vocabulary and teach them how to use that knowledge to follow directions, answer questions, and participate in simple conversations with others.
Structured Literacy prepares children to decode words in an explicit and systematic manner. This approach not only helps children with learning disabilities in reading, but there is substantial evidence that it is effective for all readers. The elements of my Structured Literacy instruction include phonological awareness, phonics, syllable types, morphology (roots, prefixes, and suffixes), syntax (grammar), and semantics (understanding vocabulary/written language). I am IMSE Orton-Gillingham trained.

ABOUT ME
I am Aimee Field, a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist (S-LP) with over a decade of prior experience as an Elementary School Teacher. I use these combined assets today as a clinician working within an education system and in private practice. Although I remain a teacher in good standing with my OCT certification, my journey towards attaining graduate level knowledge of how language and sound development contribute to a child’s ability to read, led me to pursuing my Master of Clinical Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Facilitating children to be able to realize their full potential, in spite of their communication or reading challenges, is my priority as a clinician. I believe that supporting a child to be an effective communicator and functionally literate are important parts of securing their future success.
Conducting formal and informal assessments (speech, expressive and receptive language, phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, narrative retell skills) will support me to a make relevant clinical recommendations, including a direct therapy treatment plan, customized to each child’s unique learning needs. My service delivery model includes home visits (depending on availability), an in-person home-office option, or virtual teletherapy.
